The United Kingdom is a very popular tourist destination in Europe. This is likely to have much to do with the fact that the English language is the most widely spoken language in the world. And obviously, the country is significant both in terms of its past and the present.Besides United Kindgom, this country is also known as Great Britain or England. This is the great nation which a century ago ruled nearly the entire world. The glory of these past days might have been lost but the people are still proud of their country and its history. It has come a long way from a colonial empire to a member of the EU.

The United Kingdom consists mainly of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The country offers many beautiful locales and vivid cities. Quite an unparalleled city,  representing itself as an icon of diversity with people from different races, creeds and all walks of life blended into its culture. London is also the location where one can see many marvels of architecture such as the Tower Bridge. While Durham and York in certain ways represent the bygone era of country, Liverpool and Newcastle on the other hand are perfect examples of modern industrial cities. Also worth mentioning are the beautiful Lake District and Edinburgh, which draw tourists from all over the world. If you are sightseeing in London, some of the attractions that that would be recommened for you to see would include Hampton Court Palace, Buckingham Palace, Kensington Palace, Whitehall Palace and the Tower of London.

As was already mentioned, the United Kingdom offers much for travelers beyond London. For example, the national museums of Liverpool are fascinating and definitely worth seeing if you are visiting Liverpool. Only London has a bigger number of museums than Liverpool. The Merseyside Maritime Museum, the Lady Lever Art Gallery, the International Slavery Museum and the National Conservation Centre are just some among many.

A succinct special note is called for some among the heritage cities of England. Brighton is a seaside city that had two piers, Brighton Pier and West Pier. The Royal Pavilion, which is a former royal residence, is also a notable and popular attraction for tourists in Brighton. The city of Canterbury is historically very significant. Its famous cathedral and several other historic structures and buildings make it a very fascinating destination for tourists. Oxford and Cambridge are two cities that are famous for their extraordinarily high quality universities. Nottingham has captured the imaginations of many because of its connections to the story of Robin Hood. That is why having the chance to see the Nottingham Castle and visiting the Sherwood Forest may provide the tourist with an exciting experience.
